CT River Valley Awesomeness Part II — May 24, 2011

Another great day along the river on May 24, 2011 with 4 dunlin, 7 semi-palmated plover, a short-billed dowitcher, and lots of least sandpiper (Don Clark reported 15 dunlin earlier in the day from Herrick’s Cove). Total of four black terns (Hinsdale, Herricks, Charlestown).  In the last week, I have seen 14 species of shorebird along the river valley, and I know of another two seen by others (ruddy turnstone seen by Dave Johnston in Retreat Meadows and Black-bellied Plover at Hinsdale by unknown), for a total of 16 species of SHOREbirds this year.  It’s why I affectionately call the area NH’s western coast.
