Star Island September 2011

Star Island is THE place to be to get the best of New Hampshire’s fall migration. This beautiful island is located 7 miles off the coast of New Hampshire and boasts a list of almost 200 bird species recorded to date, including many rarities. In the last few years alone, I  have managed to see King Eider, White-eyed Vireo, Sedge Wren, Worm-eating Warbler, Connecticut Warbler, Clay-colored Sparrow, Lark Sparrow, Summer Tanager, Blue Grosbeak, Dickcissel, and Yellow-headed Blackbird – and that’s just me!

I have partnered with Star Island Corporation to offer a two-night stay on the island this fall from Friday September 20 to Sunday September 22. The $300 rate includes accommodation, all meals, and transport to and from the island. It is a terrific deal, and is the first Birding Conference that the island has hosted in recent history. Oh, and its peak timing for migrants. If the birding is quiet, it is a great place to watch for seabirds, with all four shearwaters, jaegers, and phalaropes possible. At night I will be setting up recording equipment to track nocturnal migration.
