Star Island September 2011

Star Island September 2011

I have partnered with Star Island Corporation to offer a two-night stay on the island; May 20 to 22; September 23 to 25. Star Island boasts a list of almost 250 recorded bird species and is THE place to witness bird migration in New Hampshire. On previous trips, we have seen King Eider, White-eyed Vireo, Sedge Wren, Connecticut Warbler, Clay-colored Sparrow, Lark Sparrow, Summer Tanager, Blue Grosbeak, Dickcissel, Yellow-headed Blackbird, and in 2015, a state-first Lazuli Bunting (pictured on banner).

The $300 rate includes accommodation, all meals, and transport to and from the island. It is a terrific deal, and is the fourth year of Birding Conferences since I started offering these in 2013. Both weekends are at peak time for migrants, but if the birding is quiet, it is a great place to watch for seabirds, with all four shearwaters, jaegers, and phalaropes possible. Weather permitting, at night I will be setting up recording equipment to track nocturnal migration. We arrive on island Friday afternoon, and depart Sunday afternoon, with specific times available closer to the departure date. The rate includes accommodation, all meals, and transport to and from the island.

My son Jamie and I are registered for the birding weekend in May, and as I told you, I’m chaplain for the Natural History Week in June. Will we be getting a schedule for the May trip with times to meet the ferry, etc.? Thanks. Judith
