With apologies to people who don’t have the luxury of enjoying hurricanes, this is the track that can pay off big time for those pour souls stranded miles from the coast. Amongst other mega’s, on August 14, 1955 this little beauty dropped off four sooty terns in Hinsdale, my local patch. They were found by NH’s doyen of inland waterbirding, Tudor Richards. Another sooty turned up in my home town of Hancock. It hit the Carolinas as a Category 3, down from 4, and dumped a huge volume of water in New England. Will I ever add Sooty Tern to my yardlist, where it will occupy the space between herring gull and mourning dove? Doubtful. See the previous post for more info on Earl.
